Nine months, time flies

Dear Maya and Emi,

How is it Saturday already?? It seems that just yesterday mommy was thinking it was Tuesday so I had plenty of time before I had to blog this week. We've got quite a full weekend ahead so this post will be short and to the point.

Emi, you turned 9 months old last Saturday and then on Sunday you started standing on your own! You've been chattering, laughing, waving to us, eating a ton, and dancing almost every time you hear music whether you're standing or sitting. It's so cute!

Maya, you continued your helpful trend this week and even amazed mommy by weeding out more than half of your toys for the upcoming consignment sale. Like Emi, you've also been eating a ton and dancing a lot every day. Yesterday and today you're a bit moody but hopefully that passes soon.

Well, mommy needs to get moving. Love you both!

Let the sun shine!

Dear Maya and Emi,

Yayyyyy! Well, maybe not so many 'y's are appropriate just yet, but still. Three-quarters of our little family are past the awful cold that's eaten up the last two weeks of our lives. Daddy has it now but he seems to be progressing quickly so hopefully he'll be over it soon, too.

And since you girls and mommy are better, we've actually gotten to spend some time outside. As in the great outdoors. Ya know, nature. Remember what that is? Sunshine, wind, grass, leaves, fresh air, ahhhhhh... Our first time outside since our 'plague' you were so excited, Maya, that you couldn't decide between horseshoes, bubbles, and badminton, so you pulled them all out within the first five minutes. Emi, it was a little chilly but snuggled up in the carrier you were pretty content.

Yesterday we spent some time at a nearby meditation garden and playground and again got to enjoy some sunny weather. Maya you've always been really good about coming home from parks without a fight, but this time was different. You were tired, hot, and hungry and yet you did not want to leave. After all the time spent indoors lately, I can't say that I blame you. There are plenty more days of outdoor play in our near future, though, so don't worry!

Well, mommy is going to go get some rest. Love you both!

P.S. I almost forgot to mention a couple things. Emi, you tried to share a few pieces of cereal with Maya today! You brought them near her mouth but when you couldn't figure out how to actually feed them to her, you gave up and ate them yourself. Oh, well. And Maya, today we had popsicles and when you got up to throw away your wrapper you came over and got daddy and mommy's wrappers, too. That may seem like a really small thing, but you've actually had several very thoughtful and mature moments this week--we're so proud of you! Both of you!

Sick sick and sick

Dear Maya and Emi,

Goodness have we had a rough week! That croupy cough and fever you had, Maya, turned into a week of sickness that passed on to mommy and now Emi. We've been cooped up in one room all week and it hasn't been pretty. Even though feeling sick has been awful for all of us, the worst part is probably making sure everyone gets enough sleep. When one of us would start coughing, it would usually wake Emi up. Luckily you're better now, Maya, and mommy is on her way.

We barely managed to have a quick Easter moment last Sunday. The two of you searched for eggs (after a note from the Easter Bunny asking you, Maya, to leave the low ones for Emi) and started snacking on the baby puffs inside. Your baskets were small this year but you both were thrilled.

That same day while you two were napping, us adults sat down to a steak lunch to celebrate daddy's birthday. We had cake later when you were awake, but it was no party. You were so sick, Maya, that you didn't want to sing or help blow out the candles or anything. You had chosen these fun gold star sprinkles for a space theme and even decorated one of the cakes yourself. Earlier in the day you drew a really cool planet to hang up with star streamers but none of it happened. Boo...

Well, the weekend is here now and the end is in sight for this plague. Emi, hopefully it doesn't hit you as hard as it did Maya and I because we couldn't bear to see you go through that. Fingers crossed for you, little one!

Love you both!

Bunny, birthday, Grandpa, eggs

Dear Maya and Emi,

It's been a roller coaster of a week! At the moment mommy is on the floor next to your bed, Maya, trying to type quietly so you can get some rest. Since yesterday you've had a fever that spikes and drops and a croupy, awful cough. Hopefully you're better for Easter!

Last Saturday, mommy must have sensed that we might not get a proper Easter because I dressed you both in your fancy outfits to go see the Easter bunny. Emi, you didn't bat an eyelash when mommy sat you on his lap, but Maya, you were a little nervous at first. Daddy had to take over the camera duties so I could walk you up there and stand close by. Afterwards we went to visit your great-grandparents and you both got sweet Easter gifts from them.

Then, last Sunday was your buddy Wyatt's birthday party, Maya. You were a little heartbroken at first that he ran away after you (lovingly) tackled him, but you still had a fun time. You loved the cake and the laser light show. Emi, you got to play with friends your own age, too--twins, in fact!

This week Grandpa came to visit us for a few days. You both spent lots of time playing with him, especially "Grandpa slide." Emi, you waved 'bye-bye' for the first time to him. One day we went grocery shopping together so he got to see you in true form--crazy! While Grandpa was here we also colored our Easter eggs. Maya, you dyed at least half of them yourself but luckily there were some left when Uncle Matt pulled out his air brush to give it a try!

Well, I'd better get some sleep in case we have another rough night. Love you both!
