Spring learning, summer playing

Dear Maya and Emi,

The weather's really heating up around here and the summer fun is starting already!

Last Friday night you and I went to your school's "Spring Into Learning" event, Maya. We saw lots of your crafts and projects displayed, had free ice cream, enjoyed seeing animals at the petting zoo, and so much more. It was great to chat with some of the staff, especially your principal who was one of mommy's teachers in high school. It was also really great to see you in your element and see how you interacted with people at school. You're getting so big!

We also went to your classmate's birthday party last weekend, Maya. While you played with all your friends on the huge bouncy slide and bouncy obstacle course, Emi enjoyed the regular-sized slide on their swing set. By the time we left, you were climbing up and flying down all by yourself, Emi!

This week we've been spending time outside with bubbles, the hose, the water table, and your other outside toys. The two of you have been bickering a lot lately, but when you're out on the deck or in the backyard you play together much more nicely. Hooray for nice weather!

Looking forward to the weekend with you guys! Love you both!

Spirit week, spirited toddler

Dear Maya and Emi,

It's been more than a week since my last post because it's been a crazy week. Another reason, though, is that I wanted to include picture of all your outfits from School Spirit Week, Maya. I forgot to take a picture one day, but there were some cute ones the other days.

Monday: Backwards/Inside Out Day

 Tuesday: Tropical Day

Wednesday: Western Day

Thursday: Sports Team Day (you wore your Giants t-shirt)

Friday: School Spirit Day
(we have no school stuff and no orange clothing,
so this bandanna made another appearance)

Speaking of spirit, you've become quite, um, spirited lately, Emi. You throw tantrums when you don't get your way or when a meal is over (you LOVE to eat!) Luckily your tantrums are usually pretty short-lived, but in the meantime we have to watch out because sometimes you scratch us, pull our hair, or a couple times you've even tried to bite us. We are disciplining you, but I think it will take a little while because you're so frustrated that you can't communicate better. It'll get better, sweetie!

We've been having nice weather finally, and the reason for the crazy winter hat in some of these pictures is the homework for a photography workshop mommy's been taking. You poor photographer's kids!

Okay, mommy has to do about five more things before the school bus gets here. Love you both!

Sweet, simple mommy moments

Suddenly Emi is unable to nap or sleep without her 'baby'!

Dear Maya and Emi,

It's been a rainy, soggy week around here, so we've been mostly enjoying indoor activities. As of yesterday, though, we're finally seeing some significant sunshine so hopefully we can get out more and enjoy the (finally) emerging spring colors! In the meantime, here are some pics from the week:

  • Waiting for the school bus early each morning is a sweet moment with you two

  • Lately you're both very into playing dress up and drawing on the ipad

We celebrated Mother's Day very simply over the weekend. Maya, you brought home a beautiful card and some potted marigolds that you grew from seeds. We had a snuggly, sweet morning due to mommy's photo shoot being rained out, then we went out shopping. Maya, the two of us got manicures together (your first professional one!) and they gave us a rose which you loved! It was really a lovely day with you guys!

Thank you so much to you sweethearts for making me such a proud and happy mama!
Love you both!

Balloons, bubbles, blue cupcakes

Dear Maya and Emi,

Another quick post tonight, my dears. Mommy just got a new work desk and chair so I'm going to take the opportunity of doing my work in a comfortable environment and get as much done as I can before bed!

Today marked the end of spring break for you, Maya, and Emi and I certainly missed you! You were such a good big sister and helper around the house last week. You were happy to get back to school, though, and see all of your friends and your teachers.

If it weren't for the striped pants, Emi in these pictures reminds me of a chubby cherub in a Renaissance painting!
Yesterday was your cousin Grace's 3rd birthday! Her party was going to be at the park but due to rain it was held at the local firehouse. It was a great location and Aunt Kelsie and Uncle Shawn brought bubbles and balloons and coloring books to play with--and it was a blast! We love you, Gracie!

Well, mommy's going to go be productive. Love you both!
